Putting More Money Back in Your Pocket

Mike believes your hard-earned money belongs in your pocket, not in the hands of insurance companies or financial institutions that refuse to pay what they owe.

As Illinois State Treasurer, Mike has transformed the state's I-CASH program, returning more than $2.6 billion in missing money to Illinois residents, businesses, and nonprofits since taking office. In fiscal year 2026 alone, his office returned a record $307.8 million to more than 567,000 people, businesses, and organizations.

Mike also launched Enhanced Money Match, a program that automatically identifies eligible Illinoisans and returns their missing money without requiring them to file a traditional claim. Since its launch, the program has returned more than $130 million to over 870,000 people.

And when powerful life insurance companies failed to pay benefits owed to grieving families, Mike took them on. His office uncovered more than $550 million in unpaid death benefits and worked to change state law to hold insurers accountable. As a result of these efforts, more than $500 million in unclaimed life insurance benefits has been paid to beneficiaries.
