Local Leaders 'Cautiously Optimistic' About Casino

From vermilioncountyfirst.com

State Senator Mike Frerichs says he is ‘cautiously optimistic’ about Danville’s chances to land a riverboat casino after a meeting with Governor Pat Quinn Thursday. Frerichs says it is clear that the Governor has some concerns about the gambling expansion bill headed to his desk. But the Senator does not believe those concerns are so much about a proposed Danville casino as they are about other aspects of the bill.

Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer says Governor Quinn was very generous with his time as he met with a contingent of elected, business and labor leaders. In fact, the Governor spent much of the time leading the discussion in the question and answer session. But the Mayor adds the Governor gave no indication whether he supports or opposes any or all of the legislation, or Danville’s inclusion.

Senator Frerichs expects it will probably be sometime this fall before any agreement is reached on the bill. But Frerichs adds he was heartened to learn that a Danville casino is apparently not the Governor’s biggest concern about the bill.
